The "Cow Fields" was finally completed some while back and CD copies supplied to my son and daughter.
Here is a preview of the first few pages:
The fire engine raced at full speed down the street with its bell ringing and skidded wildly round a corner.
Philip and the other firemen hung on tightly as it raced towards the burning house.
“Philip….. Philip. Stop swinging on that front gate or your father will box your ears when he comes home.” His Mother shouted at Philip from the front door.
Philip reluctantly stepped off the fire engine and then noticed a boy about his own age grinning at him from a garden on the other side of Queen Mary Avenue.
Philip grinned back at the boy and thus was born a friendship that would endure with Peter Davis for the next two decades.
The year was 1939. Philip was 4 years old and lived with his parents, his older brother Peter and his grandmother in Morden Surrey, a suburb of south London.
Number 65, Queen Mary Avenue was in the centre of a terrace of six houses and was typical of the explosion in modern suburban building that had occurred in the mid 1930’s over much of southern England.
Walter and Nellie Holcombe, Philips parents, had purchased the house for £750 in 1938, after the previous occupants of only one year had done a midnight flit, presumably defaulting on the mortgage repayments.
After his mother had returned indoors Philip remounted the fire engine and it raced away on another exciting adventure…………….

The Cow Fields
For the last several years I have been writing my autobiography, the purpose of which is to leave behind some record of who I was for those who come after me.
The title is called "The Cow Fields" which will become aparent for those who read it.
I have now reached about 130 A4 pages and will soon be able to give a DVD copy of "The Cowfields" to my son Paul, and daughter Gillian.
Future blogs will incorporate quotes from "The Cow Fields.
